So as I had reported here in September, there was a new Bjork music video coming out for “Wanderlust” from Volta. Then all of the sudden all the info stopped coming and even a behind the scenes interview from the set was pulled from Mtv’s subterranean blog and it seemed like B’s web site all but tried to cover up the fact that it even was it was ever a concept.
It was originally said that it was going to be directed by Michel Gondry, then after info about wander lust vanished, it came back with Gondry in the form of a video for “Declare Independence” – Which just released, you can watch below. Personally I think it’s soo boring. I’ve seen better from Gondry and B. in videos and concepts. Compared to the early concept art and footage of Wanderlust , this looks like a bad replacement.
Then I found some more info on Wanderlust here
Basically I think what happened is that they were going to do wanderlust, but production was taking too long. So then they called in Gondry to do a quickie video to ride the truncated hype generated by the announcement of a wanderlust video coming out. It was a bait and switch.
Looks like the wanderlust video will come out in February – pushed back due to an ambitious production of the 3D concept theme. Let’s hope it’ll be worth the wait. Anything would be better than the Declare Independence Gondry flop:
Also take a look at this video which shows Gondry and Bjork working with similar sound/paint theme from a while back – I think that explains where the music video idea came from.
